Lisa Hohenschuh

Bubbles are a symbol of new life. They only live for a few seconds in reality, but in my paintings, they remain forever newborn—embryos, little eggs of possibility. They sparked from the phrase “Bubbles Not Troubles,” reminding me that darkness can pop as quickly as a bubble when you choose light.

My work is rooted in family. I paint “Schuhs” to carry on the family name, and pickleball scenes appear as a playful nod to time spent with my pickleball-addict relatives. At the same time, my practice is about returning to childhood purity, a space of surrealism and escapism where storytelling takes center stage. I don’t want to impose my own feelings on the viewer—I want the work to remain open, so that each person can bring their own experiences into it.

Visually, my palette is guided by L.O.V.E.—lavender, orange, verde, and eggplant—where vibrant chaos collides with the peace of bubbles. Some works are created in oil, others in watercolor and collage, and others as linoleum cut reduction prints. No matter the medium, I use these materials to explore fragility and resilience, chaos and calm, fleeting moments and timeless symbols.
